PET/CT Technology

A positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) scan, or PET/CT scan, enables our doctors to see many of your organs to help diagnose a variety of diseases including:

  • Breast cancer
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Head and neck cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Lymphoma
  • Melanoma
  • Thyroid cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Epilepsy
  • Alzheimer’s disease

PET/CT scans enable us to see how your organs look and how they function. By fusing the CT and PET images, we can not only identify a tumor (PET) but also pinpoint its location (CT). And because the two tests are combined into one exam, you can receive both during a single convenient visit and using a single piece of equipment.

We want your physicians to be able to make the best diagnosis and recommend the best course of treatment for whatever medical issue you may be facing. They need the latest diagnostic tools available to them, especially leading-edge imaging technology and expert evaluation that informs them about any potential problems.

Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center provides advanced medical imaging services – with board-certified physicians, certified technologists and service-oriented staff – to help your physician help you make the best medical decisions.

Forsyth Medical Center's imaging services are available at the medical center and at conveniently located Novant Health outpatient imaging centers (see below). For all diagnostic imaging procedures except mammograms, please ask your physician for a referral. Your physician’s office staff can assist you with your appointment or you can schedule your procedure directly with us. To find a physician, please review our online directory or call 336-718-7000.

If you need help estimating your insurance-covered and out-of-pocket costs for an imaging or surgical procedure, our financial navigators can help, free of charge. Just call 336-277-7299 or toll-free 1-888-277-3901, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The financial navigator will ask you about the medical procedure and your health insurance coverage; then you’ll receive an estimate of the cost along with payment options.
